Abstract

1,082,207. Screw sockets. FIRTH CLEVELAND FASTENINGS Ltd. July 17, 1964 [July 25, 1963], No. 29415/63. Heading F2H. [Also in Division E2] A fastening device 10 adapted to be fitted into an aperture (12a) of rectangular shape in a plate (12) and to be locked in the aperture by insertion of a screw into a longitudinal bore in the device comprises a nut portion 10a of non- circular cross-section and a deformable sleeve 10b extending from the nut portion and having at its outer end a flange 10c adapted to engage the plate (12), the sleeve being of square or rectangular cross-section at least over a part of its length adjacent the flange. The nut portion, sleeve and flange are moulded in one piece of nylon or other synthetic plastics material the bore in the nut being untapped. After insertion of the device in the aperture in the plate (12), a screw is inserted into the nut portion 10a. Rotation of the screw effects rotational displacement of the nut whereby the nut is drawn up to the rear face of the plate with its non-circular periphery out of register with the non-circular aperture by collapsing the sleeve in the axial direction.
