Abstract

1,081,620. Tampons: SOUTHALLS (BIRMINGHAM) Ltd. Sept. 16, 1964 [Sept 16, 1963], No. 36300/63. Heading A5R. A method of making a tampon comprises preparing a strip of material comprising a layer 1 of cellulose fibres and a layer 2 of cotton or man-made fibres, folding the opposite sides of the strip inwardly to form a composite strip of material, cutting a predetermined length of material from the composite strip, rolling the said length and radially compacting the roll. A cord may be incorporated during the rolling step. The cellulose fibres may be wood cellulose fibres or fibres formed from esparto grass, hemp, straw, bamboo and bagasse.
