Abstract

In a process for electro-phoretically depositing a surface coating on metal articles, the article to be plated forms the anode of an electrical circuit and the electrolyte, which comprises a water thinnable paint medium based on a water-soluble synthetic resin, is directed on to the said articles in one or more streams, a cathode being provided within each stream of liquid. The apparatus shown comprises a vessel 1 for containing the coating liquid having a spout 2 for producing a stream of the liquid and containing a wire 8 which forms the cathode. The articles to be coated are positioned upon a metallic band 3 moving about rollers 3, 5 and connected to the voltage supply by way of the band 3, roller 4 and connection 11. Surplus fluid collects in a container 13 from which it is returned to the vessel 1 by way of the pump 14 and pipe 15. <PICT:1080171/C6-C7/1>
