Abstract
1,079,884. Thermal switches. DRAYTON CONTROLS Ltd., and A. J. BENSON. July 6, 1965 [July 31, 1964], No. 30348/64. Heading H2B. [Also in Division F2] A temperature-responsive switching mechanism comprises a metal tube probe (7) containing a rod (8), for example of ceramic material, which acts on a lever (9) on which a switching element (12) is pivotally retained, a tension or compression spring (14) being connected at one end to the element (12) and at the other end to an adjustable stationary anchorage in the form of a screw (15), adjustment of which varies the operating temperature at which the probe moves the lever (9) to a position in which the spring (14) causes the element (12) to snap from one position to another. The element (12) may co-operate with electrical contacts (not shown) or open and close valve ports (3 and 5) (see Division F2). In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the rod (8) acts on a lever (9a) via a spring-loaded lever (16), one end of which cooperates with a shoulder (21) on the adjusting screw (15a) to provide a different lever ratio between expanding and contacting conditions of the probe, whereby a more precisely determinable operating temperature is stated to be obtained.
