Abstract

1,078,861. Tremolo device. H. G. COLE. Aug. 11, 1964 [Sept. 10, 1963], No. 32710/64. Heading G5J. To produce a tremolo effect in a guitar or similar stringed instrument the strings are anchored in a cradle rocked by a handle against the string tension, the anchorage point being movable to adjust the change in tension for a given angle of rock. As shown, each string 14 is anchored around a pin 62 in a block 64 which is itself pivoted at 70 to a fork of block 68. The height of the fork block is adjustable by screw 72 held in the cradle bottom 30, so that the distance between the cradle axis and that of the pivot 70 may be varied so varying the sensitivity of the tremolo device. The plate 40, which is moved upward against a spring, holds the cradle in a horizontal position when the tremolo effect is not being produced. A pivoting bridge member is provided for each string to reduce wear of the strings.
