984, 078. Saxophone mouthpieces. A. R. STRATHMANN. Jan. 31, 1964 [Feb. 15, 1963], No. 4323/64. Heading G5J. The timbre of a saxophone is controlled by an adjustable wedge-shaped insert 7 (which is mounted opposite the reed and which varies the volume of the column of air above the reed. The adjustment is made by a rod 7 and a slider 10 which is fitted with a grip 11 or, in a further embodiment, (not shown), with a Bowden cable.
