Abstract

1,078,171. Handles. CARR FASTENER CO. Ltd. Jan. 17, 1964 [Jan. 22, 1963], No. 2759/63. Heading A4U. [Also in Divisions E2 and F2] A two-part fastening arrangement for retaining a handle 6, Fig. 4, on an apertured support 11, comprises a first part in the form of a hollow, tubular resilient bush, Fig. 1, having a shank portion 2, a head portion 1 of non-circular external cross-section, and a bore 3 with a constricted region 4, and a second part including a stem 8, Fig. 4, with a peripheral recess 9 therein, the arrangement being such that, in use, the head portion of the bush is inserted into a non-circular aperture in the support of such dimensions that rotation of the bush about its axis results in deformation of the bush by the edges of the aperture which cut into and retain the bush, the stem 8 being inserted into the bore 3 so that it is retained therein by interengagement of the constriction with the recess. In the embodiment shown the bush, Fig. 1, is of nylon and has a head portion 1 of oval cross-section and a shank 2. In use the head portion 1 is inserted into a rectangular aperture whose length and width are the same as those of the oval cross-section of the head, and is rotated about its axis so that the edges of the aperture cut into the bush at 14 and abut stops 5 on the head. The stem 8 is then pushed into the bush until an annular flange 4 in the bore of the bush interengages with a peripheral groove 9 on the stem. The stem 8 projects from the base of a socket 7 in the handle which is shaped to receive the shank 2. In other embodiments the constricted region of the bore of the bush is formed by inwardly projecting fingers, and the shank 2 is of circular cross-section.
