Abstract

Transparent, homogeneous, heavy-duty liquid detergent compositions comprise (a) 5-30 weight per cent of at least one non-cationic surfactant; (b) 15-45% of a polyphosphate; and (c) 1-25% of an aromatic monocarboxylate, the total solid content being less than 75%. The surfactant may be anionic, e.g. alkyl sulphates or sulphonates, alkylaryl sulphonates, and sulphated ethylene oxide condensates, the cations being Na, K, NH, isopropanolamine, or a mono- or triethanolamine; non-ionic, e.g. ethylene oxide condensates with alcohols or alkylphenols; or amphoteric, such as a betaine, alanine, imidazoline, or polyamine. The polyphosphate may be potassium tripolyphosphate or potassium pyrophosphate, or a mixture thereof. Suitable monocarboxylates are the alkali metal salts of benzoic acid, ethylbenzoic acid, p-toluic acid, p-cumic acid, and salicylic acid. In examples, coco-diethanolamide and potassium metasilicate are optional ingredients.
