Abstract
1,074,098. Magnetic separators. THOMAS MOUGET & CO. Ltd. Jan. 8, 1965 [Oct. 24, 1963], No. 41936/63. Heading B2J. A magnetic separator comprises an apron conveyor 10, Fig. 1, passing around a drum 12 at one end. Fig. 2 (not shown). and an electromagnet 17 housed in the drum so that, when material, e.g. metal-containing slag, is fed on the conveyor and reaches the drum end of the conveyor, the magnetic fraction of the material is held to the conveyor while the non-magnetic fraction falls off the conveyor. Mild steel plugs 19 are fitted in the apron plates 11 of the conveyor to condense or concentrate the magnetic field set up by the electromagnet, the plates being preferably of non- magnetic material. An additional electromagnet 18 acts on the lower return run of the conveyor to retain the magnetic material thereon until the conveyor is clear of the drum. The conveyor 10 is driven at both sides by sprocket wheels 15 which are mounted on stationary stub shafts 13 and are driven by spur wheels 16 bolted to the wheels 15 and similarly mounted. The conveyor passes over sprockets at its end remote from the feed-off region and may be driven from this end instead of the feed-off end.
