Abstract
A single step continuous process for the production of metallic soap in substantially dry form by subjecting a continuous stream of a mixture of a substantially anhydrous solid saponification agent and substantially anhydrous solid fatty acids, to the simultaneous actions of compression and friction in a relatively small zone or layer. Saponification agents used are alkaline or alkaline earth metals, or the oxides, hydroxides or carbonates thereof, or mixtures thereof, or the oxides, hydroxides, carbonates, or mixtures thereof, of metals such as aluminium, zinc, magnesium and cadmium. The process is carried out at normal temperatures in a plodder or soap mill.ALSO:Dry metallic soaps are produced by subjecting a continuous stream of a mixture of a substantially anhydrous solid saponification agent and substantially anhydrous solid fatty acids, to the simultaneous actions of compression and friction on a relatively small zone or layer. Saponification agents used are alkaline and alkaline earth metals, oxides, hydroxides or arbonates thereof, or mixtures thereof, or oxides, hydroxides or carbonates, or mixtures thereof of metals such as aluminium, zinc, magnesium or cadmium.
