[Also in Division F2] Concrete or wooden beams are constructed with a core reinforced externally by reinforcement embedded in a synthetic plastics material, e.g. epoxy resin, which sticks to the reinforcement and to the core. As shown, a T-beam has a concrete reinforced core with wire 4 wrapped continuously around the web and coated with a plastic material 3. The core, which may be of several sections joined together axially may alternatively be of I-section or L-section. The reinforcement may be steel wires, bands, or cables, iron rods or glass fibres, and may be stressed when it is applied. The reinforcement may be passed through a bath of plastics material before being laid around the core, instead of being coated with plastics material after laying.
