Abstract

1,072,908. Fluidizing apparatus. HEAD, WRIGHTSON & CO. Ltd. March 16, 1966 [Dec. 17, 1964], No. 51367/64. Heading E1F. [Also in Division F4] A fluidizing apparatus, for example for grain-drying, comprises chamber 2 having distributor plate 4 through which fluidizing gas or liquid enters the bed, the bed being divided into zones by blades 5 mounted on rotatable spindle 6; means for preventing passage of fluidizing gas or liquid through one or more areas of the distributor plate 4, each area corresponding to the cross-sectional area of a zone of the bed, and means for advancing successive zones of the bed to bring them into register with an ineffective area of the distributor plate, to permit discharge and/or refilling of the zone. Part (Al) of the plate may be blanked off (Fig. 2 not shown), the immediately preceding area of the plate being replaced by a spout 7<SP>1</SP> for discharge of material. Alternatively a side discharge opening (15) may be provided in segmental zone (17) of casing 1 below the distributor plate, zone (17) being provided with partition walls (28), (29) in one of which are louvres (18) for controlling the admission of fluidizing fluid to zone (17).
