Abstract

1,072,612. Making -weld nuts; forging; punching; shearing. LAMSON & SESSIONS CO. July 16, 1965, No. 30424/65. Headings B3A, B3H and B3W. [Also in Division F2] In apparatus for making weld nuts from a strip 12 of metal, forming elements 72, 73 are forced into the sides of the strip by the action of a cam 78 on levers 75, 76. The elements are mounted on tool members 33, 34 which pivot about axes 68, 69. The swinging movement of the elements 72, 73 raises bosses on the top surface of the strip while leaving the bottom flat. The strip is advanced and in subsequent operations a tap hole is punched therein; the hole is chamfered and a nut body is sheared from the strip 12 through the bosses (Fig. 2, not shown) so that a boss is formed on each corner of the nut (Fig. 11, not shown). The shear punch also forms the bosses to their final shape.
