Abstract
1,069,758. Loud-speakers. F. B. SMOLARCZYK. Aug. 4, 1964 [Sept. 18, 1963], No. 31575/64. Headings H4J and H4X. Acoustic vibrations are said to be amplified by, and a static charge produced on the surface of, a foamed thermo-plastic material mounted in contact with the cone of a loud-speaker, the cone having a depth to diameter ratio less than or equal to 0À138. The loud-speaker may be mounted with the edge of the cone in contact with the foamed material, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), and Fig. 6. The centre of the cone may be connected to the foamed material, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown); or the cone may be coated with foamed material, Fig. 5 (not shown). In the embodiment of Fig. 6 parts 7 and 18 are of foamed polystyrene while 17 is a sheet of acrylonitrile-styrene copolymer. An electric charge is built up when the loud-speaker is fed with a signal and this causes dust particles to accumulate on sheet 17 so allowing the loud-speaker to be used as a dusting device.
