Abstract
1,069,170. Reducing inorganic materials; wet grinding; mixing appliances. H. LOHR. Dec. 29, 1964, No. 52649/64. Headings B1C and B2A. Apparatus for treatment of materials such as clay, schist, pre-clay &c., prior to extrusion to a moulding machine comprises a cylindrical screen 2 having reducing members e.g. rotary scrapers, in which the cylindrical screen has means to inject water to brake up compressed material on the members. As described, injection nozzles 9 are arranged axially in rows at the periphery of the screen, each row being supplied by a pipe 10 having a control cut-off valve 11 operated in step with the rotation of the scrapers by brushes 15 and a commutator 14 secured to the scraper shaft 13. In a second embodiment, superheated steam is supplied to a jacket (19, Fig. 2) surrounding the mixer 1 and via nozzles (20) into the cylinder (2), to raise the material to the required temperature and moisten it. The regulation of steam supply is controlled in accordance with the load on the cylinder and the pressure in the moulding press. Plough-share-like catch plates may be provided projecting into the input end of the screening cylinder, which may be mounted vertically. Material being processed may be warmed by providing passages, for oil or water vapour, in the scrapers, mixer and shaft. The reducing members may be arranged to be radially adjustable, and the water supply automatically adjustable by magnetic valves controlled by the driving motor load to take account of the viscosity of material being treated. In operation, material fed into the apparatus at 8 is mixed by scoops 7 which transfer the material into the cylinder 2 and thence it passes to presses 4. 5 from which a finished product is extruded.
