Abstract
An elastomer-forming composition comprises, by weight, 100 pts of a siloxane containing Sibonded vinyl radicals, and 0.5 to 15 pts. of a polymerizable ester chosen from allyl esters of polybasic organic acids and glycol esters of methacrylic acid or a polymerizable polyester of maleic acid. The preferred esters are the allyl esters of orthophthalic, isophthalic, terephthalic, cyanuric, trimellitic and pyromellitic acids, methacrylic ester of ethylene glycol and dipropylene glycol maleate. Fillers and curing agents may also be added. In a typical example (2), a mixture of methylvinylsiloxane, chopped glass strands, fume silica, titania, ultramarine blue, dicumyl peroxide and triallyl cyanurate, was heat cured to an elastomer. Uses: for making valve seats for air-blast circuit-breakers.
