Abstract
1,065,429. Cylinders of I. C. engines. WESLAKE PATENTS INVESTMENTS Ltd. Sept.25, 1963 [June 27, 1962], No.48078/64. Divided out of 1, 003, 257. Heading F1B. In a spark ignition engine with a combustion chamber 13 in the piston, the chamber 13 is offset from the cylinder axis and does not overlap the exhaust port. Means are provided to cause swirling of the entering charge or of the charge in the chamber 13. In Fig.1 the inlet valve 33 is provided with a mask 34 to promote swirl; alternatively the inlet passage may be shaped to produce the swirl and in Fig. 4 (not shown) swirl in the chamber 13 is produced by tangential passages 38.
