Abstract
1,061,174. Discharging open hearth furnaces. MANNESMANN A.G. March 6, 1964 [March 7, 1963], No. 9695/64. Heading F4B. An apparatus for varying the outlet crosssection of a tap hole of an open hearth furnace comprises a bent lever 5, 5a provided with a weight 4, pivotably mounted to a buckstay 3 of a back wall 1 of the furnace above the tapping spout 2. Mounted on a pivot 8 on the lever 5, 5a at the point of attachment 7 of a lifting and lowering cable 6 is a rod 9, with a plug stopper of refractory material 10 which is also adjustable vertically by a cable line 11. In the working position with arm 5a horizontal the weight provides the pressure for the plug stopper 10, whose diameter is at least as great as that of the tap hole, to hold back the slag flow. The holder 12 may retain the apparatus in its non- working position.
