Abstract
1,059,530. Ball-point pens. A. O. BERGLEIN. Nov. 13, 1964 [Feb. 10, 1964; Feb. 29, 1964], No. 46329/64. Heading B6P. The leakage preventing device at the end of a ballpoint cartridge reservoir 1 comprises a tubular member 2 having relatively small and large diameter portions 2a and 2b, which define therebetween a valve seat 3 for a spring-urged valve member 4. Integral with the valve member 4 is a guide and control spindle 5 which projects beyond the portion 2a of the tubular member 2 and co-operates by abutment with the pen casing (not illustrated). When pressure is applied to the writing point, the spindle 5 urges the valve member 4 away from its seating to allow air to enter the reservoir. The valve member 4 may have a part spherical surface as illustrated in Fig. 2, or a frusto-conical surface as illustrated in Fig. 1 (not shown). In both cases a stem 6 is provided to seat the spring 7 on the member 4. The tubular member 2 may fit inside the reservoir 1, as shown in Fig. 2, or may fit outside the reservoir as illustrated in Figs. 3, 5 and 6 (not shown). The abutment means for the spring 7 is provided on the tubular member, as in Fig. 2, or on the inside of the reservoir, as in Figs. 3, 5 and 6 (not shown). A pasty plug, known per se, may be provided on the surface of the ink column inside the reservoir.
