Abstract

Alumina catalyst carriers are prepared from granulates or congromulates of active alumina having a specific surface area of at least 200 sq. m./g. by a process comprising heating at a temperature exceeding 100 DEG C. in an autoclave in the presence of water and then calcining them at at least 500 DEG C. The calcining may be at 500-1600 DEG C. for from 1 to 8 hours. The product may have a specific surface area of 80 sq. m./g.
