Abstract
1,058,064. Transformers; insulation. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGSG.m.b.H. Sept. 3, 1963 [Sept. 3, 1962], No. 34831/63. Headings H1A and H1T. A method of making a cylindrical insulating member having a peripheral end flange comprises the steps of making incisions in laminar insulating material composed of at least three superimposed layers 12, 13, 14, winding the incised layers on to a primary winding body to form a cylinder of the material, and turning over one axial end to form the end flange, the incisions being so situated and orientated as after winding to extend longitudinally of the cylinder at the turning over position in such a manner as to permit the turning over, and the winding operation being effective to displace the incisions in each of the two outer ones of said superimposed layers relatively to those in the adjacent intermediate layer or layers so as not to be coincident therewith after winding. In one method, the incisions are made on a secondary winding body. The layers are then re-wound on to the primary winding body in such a way as to mutually displace the incisions of adjacent layers. In another method, the layers are simultaneously incised before they are wound on to the primary winding body in which case the layers are off-set as required before they reach the winding body. The insulating material when made into " angle ring " insulation may have wedge-shaped incisions. Such angle rings may be used to insulate the windings of a transformer (Fig. 6, not shown).
