Abstract
1,057,630. Converters; crucibles. VEREINIGTE ÍSTERREICHISCHE EISEN-UND STAHLWERKE A.G. Dec. 13, 1963 [Dec. 14, 1962], No. 49423/63. Heading F4B. At least part of the mouth of a crucible or converter is surrounded by a hollow ring 5 supplied with a coolant, an air gap 12 being formed between the ring and the crucible or converter shell 1. The ring 5 has an angleshaped cross-section forming two flanges 6 and 7 enclosing cavities 10 and 9 respectively, separated by an apertured partition 11. The flange 6 is accommodated in an annular recess in the region of the mouth. The ring is supported by brackets 4 and bolts 13, the latter serving as spacers. Those parts of the flange 6 exposed to heavy stresses may have a solid, wear-resisting plate 14, Fig. 3 (not shown), extending across cavity 10. Cooling conduits, Fig. 1 (not shown), for the ring 5 may be connected to the trunnion cooling system.
