Abstract

1,056,218. Cutting silage. GEORG HARDER MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. April 15, 1965 [April 23, 1964], No. 16305/65. Heading A4C. A portable machine for cutting silage from a clamp 12 in a silo comprises a rotary cutting drum 8 mounted on a frame 6, 7 swingably mounted on an upright supporting structure 1 coupled by links 2 to a tractor equipped with a power jack, the machine including a collecting trough 14 articulated to the bottom of the supporting structure. In operation the drum 8 is raised and engaged with the clamp 12 whereafter operation of the hydraulic cylinder 13 swings the frame 6, 7 and drum 8 downwardly to sever and convey a layer of silage from the clamp 12 to trough 14. The supporting structure 1 may then be raised by the forward links 2 to lift the trough 14 clear of the floor 5 and then cut silage is conveyed in and subsequently tipped from the trough 14. The cutter drum is formed with spirally arranged knives which carry cut silage towards the centre of the trough 14. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the trough is fitted with a screw conveyer or a conveyer belt which carry cut silage towards a discharge opening in one end wall of the trough.
