Abstract
1,055,599. Laminates and laminating. B.X. PLASTICS Ltd. Nov. 11, 1963 [Nov. 9, 1962], No. 42427/62. Heading B5N. A decorative laminated sheet material comprises a base sheet of cellulose acetate having the printed side of a thinner cellulose acetate sheet bonded thereto, one or both of the contacting surfaces containing a solid plasticizer for the cellulose acetate, such as acetanilide or paratoluene sulphonamide. The plasticizer is solid at toom temperature and should have a melting point higher than the softening point of the cellulose acetate. In a process for manufacturing said laminate an extruded cellulose acetate sheet I is coated by means of roller 3 with a solution of solid plasticizer 4 and passed, via a heater 5 which evaporates the plasticizer solvent, to the nip of heated rollers 8. At the same time, a thinner sheet of cellulose acetate 6, which has been printed with an ink containing a solid plasticizer, passes via heater 7 to the nip of the heated rollers 8 where it is bonded to sheet 1. The product may be used in the manufacture of spectacle frames.
