Abstract
1,053,110. α-Phenylamino-anthraquinones. J. R. GEIGY A.G. Nov. 17, 1964 [Nov. 18, 1963], No. 46739/64. Heading C4P. The invention comprises anthraquinone dyes of the formula wherein Y 1 and Y2 are H or -OH and Z 1 and Z 2 are H or, if Y 1 and Y 2 are H, one or both may be halogen, A is phenylene which may contain substituents which do not dissociate acid in water, R 1 and R 2 are 1-1 C alkyl or alkenyl or hydroxyalkyl having 2-4 C atoms or R 1 and R 2 together with the N atom form a 5- or 6- membered heterocyclic ring. The dyes may be prepared by condensing a compound or a mixture thereof with its leuco compound with an amine of the formula in the presence of boric acid or esters thereof or, alternatively, by condensing a compound with an amine of the formula and, if desired, the radical A may be further substituted, e.g. halogenated, after the formation of the dyestuff. The dyes may be employed to dye hydrophobic fibres, especially aromatic polyesters and cellulose acetates. Examples are given.
