Abstract
1350201 Quinophthalone dyes YORKSHIRE CHEMICALS Ltd 19 April 1971 [18 Feb 1970] 7678/70 Heading C4P A water-insoluble quinophthalone dye has the general formula in which R<SP>1</SP> represents alkyl (2-8C) substituted by Cl, Br, CN, acyl, alkoxycarbonyl or #-cyanoethoxy, or hydroxyalkyl (3-8C); R<SP>2</SP> represents a phenyl group containing at least one non- aromatic substituent other than a carboxylic or sulphonic acid group, or alkyl (2-8C) substituted by Cl, Br, CN, alkoxy or alkoxycarbonyl, or hydroxyalkyl (3-8C) and the nucleus A is optionally substituted by one or more atoms of Cl or Br or by one or more CH 3 or phenyl groups. The dyes are prepared by reacting a quinophthalone compound of formula in which R<SP>3</SP> is Cl or Br, with an alcohol R<SP>1</SP>-OH or an amine R<SP>2</SP>-NH 2 in which R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> have the meanings given above.
