Abstract

1,053,152. Selective printing. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Feb. 4, 1965 [Feb. 19, 1964], No. 4818/65. Heading B6F. An electrostatic selective printing apparatus comprises a travelling printing head 10 having a plurality of elements to form any of a number of characters, each element consisting of a plurality of electrodes 12. These electrodes may be four separate wires or a single wire split at the end to form a group of writing electrodes. The groups of electrodes 12 are mounted in a block of clear plastic material of high dielectric strength and the block is screwed to an insulating belt 22 so that the wires contact a series of conductors 20 which are plied with signals from commutators 39 (Fig. 1, not shown). A loading plate 28 of thin spring steel having cut-out loading fingers 32 and formed with a loading spring 34 ensures good electrical contact with the conductors 20. The engagement of the spring 34 with a backing plate 40 also maintains the head in close contact to a record medium 36 which is backed by a plate connected to ground potential.
