Abstract

1,052,621. Cellulose fibres containing aminoethyl cellulose ethers. COURTAULDS Ltd. Oct. 8, 1963 [Oct. 9, 1962], No. 38115/62. Heading B5B. [Also in Division C3] Regenerated cellulose fibres contain aminoethyl and diethylaminoethyl ethers of cellulose. The aminoethyl ethers may be incorporated, or formed in situ, in the cellulose at any stage up to the finishing of the fibre. In a viscose process aminoethyl cellulose and diethylaminoethyl cellulose may be xanthated and added to viscose, or may be mixed with the cellulose or alkali cellulose before xanthation. Alternatively, compounds reactive with cellulose to form the ether in situ may be added nt suitable stages in the production. Specified reagents are 2-aminoethyl sulphuric acid, 2-chlorethanolamine and the corresponding diethyl compounds. In an example a mixture of aminoethyl and diethylamino-ethyl cellulose ethers is xanthated, ordinary viscose is added, and the mixture spun at a salt figure of 6À2. The fibres of the invention preferably contain at least 0À165% by weight of nitrogen derived from the amino ethers. The fibres have good dyeability.
