Abstract
1,049,377. Refrigerators. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 9, 1963 [Oct. 10, 1962], No. 38386/62. Heading F4H. The plastics liner 1 of a refrigerator cabinet has a hollow protuberance 2 extending through a foamed plastic insulation 5 and having an opening 4 in its end wall 3 for the insertion of an evaporator 6, the opening being closed by a foamed plastic plug 7. A sheet 10 of plastics material is held in place over the plug by engagement with strips 8 of plastics material stuck to the walls of the protuberance 2. An axial slot may be provided in one side of the plug 7 to accommodate refrigerant tubes. A sheet metal casing (not shown) has at least the wall omitted corresponding to the wall of the liner having the protuberance. Over its consequently exposed area the insulation 5 is sealed against moisture either by a metal foil incorporated during moulding, in which case the plug 7 is sealed before insertion, or a plastic or bitumastic paint may be applied to insulation and plug after assembly. The cabinet is manufactured by placing the liner and outer casing in a mould, foaming plastic into the space between the liner and casing and, after removal from the mould, cutting the aperture 4 in the protuberance 2.
