Abstract

1,040,485. Refrigerators. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS - G.m.b.H. May 29, 1963 [June 28, 1962], No. 21504/63. Heading F4H. A refrigerator cabinet containing a cooling compartment 1, Fig. 1 (not shown), defined by walls of insulating material 3, having a door 4 and a flat table top 6 has the space between the insulated rear wall of compartment 1 and the rear wall 5 of the cabinet divided into two vertical ducts 8, 9 by a partition wall 7 in which are mounted thermo-electric elements 10 located between thermally conducting plates 16, 17, Fig. 7 (not shown), to which finned, cooled and heated bodies 18, 19 are secured so that they project into ducts 8, 9 respectively. Compartment 1 connected by apertures 11 at the top and bottom of the rear wall to duct 8 is cooled by circulating cold air drawn over the bodies 18 by fan 14. Air passed by fan 15 through duct 9 having an inlet 12 and an outlet 13 cools the heated bodies 19. A sump 24 at the base of duct 8 which drains into a drip pan 26 through pipe 25 collects moisture which is deposited on the bodies 18. Moisture which freezes is removed by defrosting when by reversing the current through the elements 10 bodies 18 are heated. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the partition wall 7 is insulated instead of the rear wall of the compartment. In another modification the fins on successive layers of bodies 18, 19 may be inclined at the same or opposite directions to the horizontal.
