Abstract
1,046,280. Stencilling-apparatus. W. R. GRACE & CO. March 31, 1965 [April 3, 1964], No. 13931/64. Heading B6C. A stencil suitable for use in printing closure gaskets comprises a screen 13 rigidly secured to an elastic and distortable frame member, Fig. 1 (not shown), a metallic frame adapted to hold the outer margins of the elastic frame member rigidly, and a mask 18 having stencil-forming apertures therein attached to the underside of the screen. Each aperture may contain a central perforated disc 21. In the event of a second stencil, having larger apertures, being interposed between the mask 18 and the metal sheet &c. to be printed, notched concave discs, Fig. 7 (not shown), may be secured to the lower surface of the said mask. Both stencils may be pivoted along one side, Fig. 11 (not shown). The mask may be rigid or flexible; suitable substances are stated to be aluminium foil, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, epoxy resin, tinplate, polyethylene, nylon or natural or synthetic resin. The rubber &c. compound is forced through the stencil assembly by a squeegee, Fig. 8 (not shown), which comprises a plurality of sheets of stiff plastics material and an angularly bent baffle. The screen 13 springs back after the pressure of the squeegee is removed. The screen may comprise a perforated plate, wires, spun threads or monofilaments.
