Abstract
1,044,942. Hot water boilers in incandescent gas fires; air heaters. OATLEY TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. Oct. 1, 1962 [Sept. 29, 1961], No. 35135/61. Headings F4A, F4S and F4W. An incandescent gas fire has a convection air heater 5, Fig. 2, removably fitted behind the radiants 12 or, alternatively, a water boiler 35 (Fig. 4) may be fitted in place of the air heater. The gas fire comprises a frame 6 within a casing 7, radiants 12 above burner jets 11 on a burner tube 10 which is mounted on the flange 9, and a fixed convector heat exchanger 15 leading to two flue outlets such as 16. The air heater 5 is screwed to the frame and covers an opening 18 therein behind the radiants 12. The air heater has a vertically corrugated metal partition 21 bounded by a sheet metal rear wall 20 and the cast metal front wall 19 which is spaced slightly from the continuous, rear surface of the radiants, the air entering through a grill 29, passing through the vertical passages formed by the corrugations and also round the back of the air heater and issuing from the grille 31. In the alternative form the air heater is replaced by the boiler which has a slightly recessed front wall 36 and flow and return pipe connections 41, 40 so that it may be fitted and tested before the gas fire proper is attached to it.
