Abstract

1,044,352. Thermally actuated switches. D. C. LUCKHAM. June 10, 1963 [June 26, 1962], No. 24487/62. Heading H2B. [Also in Division G1] A thermally actuated switch comprises a channel-sectioned support 8 on which a bimetallic strip 1 is mounted by means of a supporting strip 3 extending substantially parallel to it. One contact 4 is carried by the bimetallic strip and a second, fixed contact 20 is mounted in an insulating bush in the base of the channel member 8. Leads are connected to this latter contact and to the member 8, by means of screw 11, and adjustment of the operating temperature is achieved by a screw 12 which adjusts the position of the bimetallic strip. A snap-action is obtained by means of a permanent magnet 5, the position of which, relative to the strip 1, may be adjusted by a screw 6. In a modified construction two insulated contacts are carried on the base of the channel member and these are bridged by a bar attached to the free end of the bimetallic strip. The whole device is enclosed in a sealed tube for use in liquids.
