Abstract

1,043,201. Stringed instruments. ORMSTON BURNS Ltd. Sept. 25, 1962 [Oct. 5, 1961], No. 35877/61. Heading G5J. The neck 12 of a stringed musical instrument such as a guitar 10 is reinforced by a metal rod 21 which can be stressed in a state of either tension or compression to compensate for distortion due to the strings &c. The rod is accommodated in a groove 19 having a bowed longitudinal section. The groove is closed by a ply-wood fillet 36 and is covered by the finger-board receiving surface 20. The rod is anchored near the head 13 of the instrument by an anchoring strip 27 and a lock-nut 28 and at the other end carries a nut 22 formed as a toothed wheel in a housing 26. The wheel 26 is driven by a worm 23 on a shaft 24 squared at 25 to receive a key.
