Abstract

1,041,460. Injection moulding footwear. DESMA-WERKE G.m.b.H. Oct. 22, 1964 [Oct. 29, 1963; May 14, 1964; July 14, 1964], No. 43082/64. Heading B5A. In a mould for making multi-layered shoe soles, material is injected through a passage 27 to form an upper layer 25 or other part, and then by lowering a ram 22, through aligned passages 28, 29 to form a lower layer (shown in chain lines in Fig. 1) the passage 29 extending through the ram 22. In a modification (Figs. 2, 3, not shown), the upper layer comprises a preformed sole 35 of felt or the like and the first injection produces a beading edge enclosing the sole. The two injections may be of materials of different colours or abrasion resistance. The first injection is effected through passages 27, 27a, 39, 40, 41, 42 and the second through passages 29, 30, 31. A limit switch 49 (Fig. 1) stops injection when the mould is full, the switch being operated by material escaping from the filled mould and acting on a pivoted lever 48. In Fig. 2 (not shown), a toe cap 38 is also formed on the upper. In Figs. 7 to 16 (not shown), a bottom member 53 remains in position when the ram is lowered and prevents part of the mould cavity being filled with injected material; in this way the sole may be two-layered in certain regions only. In Figs. 17, 18 (not shown), apparatus is provided for forming two-layer soles separately from the uppers. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 985,416.
