Abstract

1,040,385. Centrifugal compressors and pumps. UNITED AIRCRAFT OF CANADA Ltd. March 16, 1965 [Nov. 12, 1964], No. 11168/65. Heading F1C. In a centrifugal compressor or pump, a diffuser ring 16 has a number of cylindrical borings 14 with at least one intersecting an adjacent boring in the region of the inner circumference of the ring to provide thereat a flow diffusion zone. In the embodiment shown all the borings intersect so that an uninterrupted annular passage surrounding the impeller 10 is formed. The borings are substantially tangential to a common circle and may be inclined at a moderate angle to the plane of the circle. The centre lines of the borings intersect outwardly of the circle at a distance d<SP>1</SP> which is equal to or not greater than the radius r<SP>1</SP> of the borings. The borings may be replaced by conical or pyramidal passages.
