Abstract

Reduced iron ore granules with self flux properties are produced by (a) mixing iron ore powder contg. a binder with a powdered flux agent to form green granules, (b) drying and preheating the granules, and(c) reducing the granules in the presence of a solid reducing agent, and a desulphurising agent in granular form. Increased prodn. capacity of reducing furnaces. Amount of flux agent required during smelting is lowered. Energy requirements for the furnace are lowered. Low sulphur content.
