Abstract

Wax additives contng. is not >10% gel (pref. none) are produced by irradiation of ethylene/vinyl esters copolymer, contng. 10-80% wt. vinyl esters, with a suitable quantity of high-energy ionising radiation, lowering the initial melting index of the copolymer by at least 50%. Copolymer pref. contains 18% or >21% vinyl ester, esp. 21-35% vinyl acetate, having initial melting index 1-10 reduced below 1 in absence of antioxidant using high-energy electron radiation in atmospheric conditions. Irradiation increases (breaking extension)/(permanent extension) ratio of copolymer by less than 25%.
