Abstract

Polyamides or super-polyamides are mixed with natural and/or synthetic rubber and/or reclaimed natural and/or synthetic rubber at or near their melting or softening point, the usual rubber mixture components added and the mixture vulcanized. The mixing may take place with heating, e.g. from 160 DEG -190 DEG C., in the presence of solvents or swelling agents. Specified materials which may be present are maleic, sebacic, adipic, phthalic acids, and their anhydrides and esters, olefinic compounds such as acrylic and methacrylic acids and esters, styrene and vinyl acetate. Specified synthetic rubbers are butadiene-acrylonitrile, polychlorobutadiene, butyl rubber, halogenized butyl rubber, isoolefin copolymers, polybutadiene and polyisoprene. Specified polyamides are those from hexamethylene diamine with adipic acid and sebacic acid with or without caprolactam.
