Abstract

A weft thread is picked by a supersonic pulse of air. Weft is fed through a tube 180 by a jet from a pipe 183 and is picked from the picking nozzle tube 112 by air from a chamber 75 admitted to the nozzle passage 105 by a diaphragm 81. The confusor 41 is vertically movable on the sley to assist withdrawal from the shed and the weft is assisted out of the exit slots 49 by pivoted levers 65. The weft is held at the exit side of the shed by a suction tube having a clamp and a photoelectric detector. A leno selvedge (Fig. 34) is woven. A clamp at the picking side tantens the weft during beat-up. A weft measuring drum 300 with pressure roller 312 and air discharge annulus 340 is provided. The picking nozzle may "track" with the confusor. Nozzle and confusor dimensions and air pressures are described.
