Abstract
A process for producing high permeability electromagnetic silicon steel having a cube-on-edge orientation. The process includes the steps of: preparing a melt of silicon steel containing from 2.5 to 4.0% silicon casting hot rolling cold rolling decarburizing applying a refractory oxide base coating and final texture annealing. The refractory oxide base coating is applied by electrolyzing an aqueous solution having as a major constituent at least one water soluble salt of calcium, magnesium, manganese or aluminium and as a minor constituent boron, with the steel being arranged as the cathode in the solution by removing the thus coated steel from the solution and by heating the coated steel at an elevated temperature.
