Abstract

A weft yarn winding head for driving a weft insertion bobbin includes an electromagnetic clutch 1, arranged to drive and brake a take-up plate 9 for driving the bobbin, the angular position of the plate being sensed by a sensor 11 and the clutch being actuated by a trigger circuit 16 and a preselection circuit 13 so as to stop at a preselected position. The number of turns wound on the bobbin and hence the weft length is determined by counting the pulses from sensor 11 and comparing this with a pre-set valve.
