Abstract
The invention relates to a horizontal drum laundry washing machine and seeks to provide an improved bearing arrangement for the drum which reduces the effects of frictional wear and corrosion on the bearings. According to the invention the bearing arrangement on at least the drive side of the laundry drum (2) comprises the rotary shaft (6) of the laundry drum and the fixed bearing (16) for it, which operate without lubricant and which are made of a material which resists the corrosive effect of the washing liquid as well as a sealing gland (20) which is fitted on the outside of the tank (5) of the machine between the fixed bearing (16) and the rotary shaft (16). The bearing (16) is force fitted into a resilient ring (12). The gland (20) has a resilient part (21) fixed to a drive pulley (7) and a graphite rubbing end (22) pressed against the bearing (16).
