Abstract

An electric household appliance, such as a mixer has a base (10) for receiving a bowl (12), a column (14) extending upwardly from the base (12) and carrying on its top a head (16) for receiving a beater (18). The head (16) is pivotable about a horizontal pivot axis (26) between a work position Fig. 2 and 3 in which whisks (20) of the beater are within the bowl (12) and a rest position Fig. 4 in which the whisks are outside the bowl. A locking device is provided to lock the head (16) in each of its two positions, the locking device comprising a finger (42), carried by a movable member (30), engageable in either of two recesses (44, 46) provided in a flange (22) carried by the head (16). The finger (42) is movable within the column (14) under the control of a release button (50) which is movable with respect to the column.
