Abstract

A process for the production and the filling of bags, having a hood-type closure, from a continuous unitary web (1) of plastics material, comprises asymmetrically folding said web continuously and longitudinally to provide a flap portion (6), subsequently folding said flap portion (6) to form the hood closure, cutting the web in the proximity of the first fold (9), heat-sealing and severing said web on transverse lines (3') spaced at bag width intervals, filling the bags through the openings formed by the cut in the proximity of the said first fold (9), and sealing the filling openings of the filled bags. The apparatus includes various folders, a cutter and heat-sealing and severing means for forming the bags which are subsequently filled at a filling station and then closed by sealing.
