Abstract

A process for forming a coating composition in an aqueous vehicle, comprising reacting (1) a reaction product obtained by reacting together a) a diepoxide resin having aliphatic structural carbon chains and b) a mixture of polymerizable addition monomers that have ethylenic unsaturation, which are copolymerizable to form an addition polymer and which contain a major amount of methacrylic acid and a secondary amount of styrene, in the presence of at least 6 percent benzoyl peroxide, based on the weight of the monomer, or of an equivalent of free radical initiation thereof for this reaction, at a temperature comprised in the range of 110ºC to 130º c; and (2) an ionization agent, and then suspending the material thus obtained in water.
