Abstract

To prevent undesirable yarn lays from being wound on a roller (2), light emitted by a light source (1) is directed onto a point at the roller surface. A photosensitive device (3) is arranged in such a way that it receives the light reflected from the said point of the roller. When undesirable yarn lays are located at the said point on the roller, the light is reflected in a scattered manner, and the intensity of the light entering the photosensitive device is greatly reduced. When this is so, the device generates an output signal which is used for controlling a yarn cut-off device.
