Abstract
Improvements introduced in the main patent object No. 404,790 by: A process for the production of new compounds of 5-7-disubstituted xanthone-2-carboxylic acids of formula: and its pharmaceutically acceptable, non-toxic esters, amides and salts; characterized in that one of the R1 groups is selected from alkyl and alkoxy, each having 6 to 12 carbon atoms and the other R1 group is the group (see formula) where R is lower alkyl, whose procedure consists of: 1) oxidizing a 5 (7) -alkyl- or -alkoxy-7 (5) -alkylthio-xanthone-2-carboxylic acid or a (lower) alkyl ester thereof with a peracid, optionally followed by hydrolysis to give the corresponding acids 5 (7) -alkyl- or -alkoxy-7 (5) (alkylsulfinyl) -xanthone-2-carboxylic or their lower alkyl esters and 2) optionally converting a product from step 1) to its pharmaceutically acceptable, non-toxic esters, amides and salts.
