Abstract

Improvements introduced in the object of the main patent No. 388,337, granted on September 5, 1973 for: "An apparatus for extruding a coating on a core of an advancing electrical conductor", according to which said apparatus comprises: an extrusion machine having an annular extrusion hole defined by an outer die and an inner die or point mounted on the downstream end of a core tube extending through the machine; sealing means at the upstream end of the core tube allowing the passage of the braided member therethrough; means positioned upstream of the upstream end of the core tube to introduce a fluid impervious filler medium in a liquid or semi-liquid state into interstices of the advancing braided member to substantially fill said interstices through substantially the entire length of the member passing through; a treatment chamber that is hermetically closed to the exit end of the extrusion machine and through which it is adapted to pass the covered member leaving the extrusion hole; means for introducing a fluid medium under pressure greater than atmospheric into the treatment chamber; and means for injecting a fluid under pressure into the core tube.
