Abstract

A method of producing a fibrous, nonwoven, water-laid fibrous web material characterized in that it comprises the steps of providing a plate-shaped fiber collecting element having a smooth fiber collecting surface and a multitude of openings. extending continuously from said surface through the element, each of the openings having a lip portion on said surface and a generally tabular configuration through the element, providing a suitable fiber dispersion to be dispersed in an aqueous medium to a fiber concentration of at least about 0.01 wt%, and depositing the fibers of the dispersion on the fiber collecting element to promote laminar flow of the aqueous fiber dispersing medium through the tubular openings in the plate shape, and thereby form a fibrous, non-woven, web material on the element, the web having web Integral nests formed of fasces of closely associated individual fibers, which extend over the lip portion and into the openings in the element.
